White House Faced Allegations of Attack on Free Speech After British Journalist Held
The leading Muslim civil liberties association has accused the current leadership of a “blatant affront to freedom of expression” after federal border officials detained British journalist Sami Hamdi on Sunday.
The organization asserted that Hamdi was taken into custody at San Francisco airport because of criticizing the Israeli ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip. Hamdi is part of a group of people who have been detained and expelled by immigration enforcement for expressing pro-Palestine stances.
DHS officials announced that the journalist’s visa had been terminated, and that he was in detention “facing expulsion.”

Comments from the group labeled it was “a blatant affront to freedom of expression” to hold Hamdi for criticizing Israel’s current military campaign in the Gaza region while he was involved on a lecture series. An administration official commented in a different announcement that Hamdi is facing deportation.
