The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
