President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Injured Guard Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Heartbreaking Event
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both members of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump informed the press. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Public Reaction
Mourners gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist public safety in the capital.
Remembering Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, informed the media. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Changes
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the government to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop issuing visas to holders of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on the program that she also intended to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
