LA Dodgers Survive in Canada to Force Winner-Take-All Game 7 in Fall Classic

This year's championship series is going to a final seventh game following the Los Angeles Dodgers kept alive their repeat dreams alive Friday night with a 3–1 victory over the Blue Jays in Game 6.

The reigning title holders ended Toronto’s late-game comeback with a dramatic final twin killing, stunning a Rogers Centre audience that had come ready to cheer the team's championship in 32 years.

Sixth Game Summary

Los Angeles generated all of their offense in the third frame. With two away, Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked before Smith hit a two-bagger to left field to bring home Tommy Edman. Freeman earned a base on balls to fill the bases, and Mookie Betts delivered with a two-RBI hit to the opposite field, giving the Dodgers a 3–0 lead.

Betts’ hit broke a postseason slump and revived the title holders' aspirations of being the first repeat championship winners since the Yankees captured three consecutive from 1998 to 2000.

Pitching Battle

Kevin Gausman had been dominant to that stage, striking out half a dozen of the initial seven batters he confronted. He fanned 8 through three frames, tying a World Series record, but the third-frame rally proved costly. The Blue Jays' star finished with 8 Ks over six innings, allowing three runs on three safeties and two free passes.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, meanwhile, was steady again under pressure. The righty outpitched Gausman for the second time in a seven days, giving up one run on five base hits over six frames with six Ks. He improved to four wins and one loss this playoffs with a 1.56 ERA.

The only run against him came on George Springer two-out single in the third inning, driving in Addison Barger, who had doubled previously in the frame. Springer’s hit offered a momentary lift in his return to the lineup after missing two games with an side strain.

Bullpen Heroics

From there, the Los Angeles relievers carried the load. First-year pitcher Justin Wrobleski escaped a jam in the seventh inning, and fellow rookie Rōki Sasaki pitched into the ninth before plunking Alejandro Kirk to start the frame. Barger then hit a double that got stuck under the left-center-field fence, obliging base runners to stay at second and third base.

Glasnow, Los Angeles’ Game 3 starter, entered in a relief role and got a popout before Andrés Giménez lined to left. Enrique Hernández caught the ball and threw to second base to retire the runner, sealing the victory and earning Glasnow his first-ever save.

Looking Ahead: Game 7

The best-of-seven now boils down to a single contest. Max Scherzer will take the mound for the Blue Jays, becoming the sole active hurler to start multiple seventh games of the World Series after accomplishing that in the 2019 season with the Nationals. The 40-year-old signed a single-season contract to chase another championship and has been a outspoken presence throughout this postseason.

The Dodgers, aiming to become the sport's initial repeat champions in almost 25 years, are expected to lean on their two-way star for a brief appearance.
