Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got plenty of backing from the top,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a period such as this with results like these.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
